How SciSpace Helps Researchers Move from a Question to a Verified Literature Review

Research rarely follows a straight line. We move between search engines, library portals, PDFs, notes, and writing tools—and every switch creates another opportunity to lose context.

1. Start with the question—not a pile of keywords

Instead of opening Google Scholar, PubMed, a university library, and several AI tools separately, I enter the complete research question into SciSpace. Its semantic search is designed to understand the meaning behind the question, not only exact keyword matches. That gives me a focused starting point while keeping the original question at the centre of the workflow.

2. Find relevant papers efficiently

The benchmarking segment compares SciSpace with Google Scholar, PubMed, Elicit, and Consensus. The practical difference is the connected workflow: semantic relevance, multiple databases, deduplication, and structured evidence tables in one session.

SciSpace ranks the results and helps me see why each paper may be useful. I can review coverage, remove duplicates, and move directly to the evidence. That reduces the manual switching and repeated checking that can happen when four separate tools are used independently.

3. Keep the source in view

When a useful paper is difficult to open, SciSpace can check a connected university library and keep the paper inside the same research session when institutional access is available. Once the paper is open, I can ask about the abstract, methods, results, limitations, or practical implications.

I can also find related papers, inspect citations, and export a reference. The important point is that the questions stay attached to the source instead of becoming a summary detached from the paper.

4. Scale from one paper to a structured review

One paper is not enough for a serious literature review. SciSpace can combine the strongest results, create structured evidence tables, add study-design and outcome columns, and organise evidence about weight loss, cardiovascular outcomes, methods, and study populations.

I can ask the workflow to filter by date, require open-access papers, or focus on a particular clinical comparison. The work stays in one continuous, inspectable research session.

5. Verify citations before generating the report

Before the complete literature review report is generated, the agent verifies each citation against the underlying paper. It checks that claims point to real sources, follows references back to the evidence, and keeps the sources attached to the report.

This verification step matters. I can inspect individual papers, ask the agent to explain a claim, and check the citation list instead of accepting an unsupported summary. Only after that review does SciSpace assemble a report with conclusions, limitations, and clinical context.

The result is a literature review I can audit and adapt for coursework, a thesis chapter, or a research brief—while still applying my own critical judgement.

6. Edit the Word output inside SciSpace

SciSpace does not stop at generating a report. The Word output remains editable inside the workspace. For example, I can ask for a properly formatted references section with hanging indents and continue refining the document without downloading a draft, opening another editor, and uploading it again.

I can adjust structure, formatting, references, headings, or additional sections while preserving the connection between the report and the research session that produced it.

7. Use SciSpace with ChatGPT

If ChatGPT is already part of your workflow, SciSpace can work there too. The workflow shown in the video brings paper discovery and research context into a conversation I already use, reducing the need to switch between separate tabs.

I can ask for papers, continue a research question, and use SciSpace as the research layer behind the conversation. The interface may evolve, but the practical benefit is straightforward: research support is available from ChatGPT as well as from the SciSpace website.

8. The benefits for researchers

A connected workflow can help researchers:

  • spend less time moving between unrelated tools;

  • preserve the context of the original research question;

  • compare search coverage and relevance more deliberately;

  • organise evidence in a form that is easier to inspect;

  • verify citations before relying on a generated report;

  • refine the Word output without breaking the research trail; and

  • bring research context into tools such as ChatGPT.
